A full response to God's truth must come from the heart, but God also works through our minds.

"Rejoice & Sing" no. 557. The missing word is: constant

Constancy is a lovely virtue — such a pity it's spoken of so little these days! Allied to dependability and reliability, it belongs with trust and loyalty. Could there be any better company?

"Since 'tis Nature's law to change,
Constancy alone is strange"
said the Earl of Rochester. Maybe so. And the target of his mockery was really human friendship, yet we humans are not just “Nature” — and as Christians we believe emphatically that death is not “the end”. The fact is, constancy alone can give the peace of mind by which we live.

Bunyan points us in the right direction. If we stay loyal to the Gospel, the Lord Jesus, our Friend, will support us whatever happens.

"Lord: may we see you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly day by day."
